6:30pm – CF Lecture Series:
An Evening with Eric Fischl and guest artist Sheila Pepe
Phoenix Art Museum – Whiteman Hall
This event is open to the public. Admission is free.
Artist Eric Fischl attended Phoenix College in his youth and returns every year to present the Fischl Vanguard Award to the College’s outstanding art students. He brings with him a guest of international stature to jury the Annual Student Art Competition at Phoenix College and deliver the Eric Fischl Lecture Series at Phoenix Art Museum. This year’s special guest is artist Sheila Pepe, best known for her large-scale ephemeral installations and sculpture made from domestic and industrial materials. Since the mid-1990s, Pepe has used feminist and craft traditions to investigate received notions concerning the production of canonical artwork as well as the artist’s relationship to museum display and the art institution itself.
